The temple viewed here is the center of a certain sect of Budhism, I forget which. 

Ta-ho...? I think pagoda. BTW, the name of the professional baseball team in Hiroshima is "the Carps". Which may sound strange until you understand there is a "Carp Castle" in Hiroshima as well. 

Yes, even on this picturesque island, vending machines abound. At least the prices are reasonable. 

These are prayer paddles. If I understand correctly, prayers are written on the paddles and left in the shrines.

When entering a budhist shrine, it is customary to wash ones hands. Pick up the ladle and poor the water, first over one hand, then the other.
